How old is the ammo in the crate?

Is there a way to tell how old the ammo in a 7.62X39 crate is?

There will be a date stamp on the crate. I gave my (empty) crate away so I can't post a pic for you.

Generally, ammo in original sealed containers will be better than opened cardboard cases.

Most is 1970-1978 vintage. Doesn't matter if it stored properly, I've yet to have a dud or hang-fire, thousands down 4 different pipes...

AGE OF 7.62x39 Czech ammo;

ALL the info you want can be found on the outside of the crate, on the metal liner (Cover) and the headstamp.

I have a few crates of '61 and they seem to be the best I have shot in a while.

Commie ammo is like fine wine... tastes like s**t, but fun to shoot.

Head stamp on the rounds. Most of what we're getting now is from around 1973 +/-. In other words, if you see a 74 stamped on your round it's form 74.

Same data is on the crate ###/73-bxn The three Xs, I gather, are lot number. In that example the 73 in the year of manufacture.
