How safe are EMT`s?

not responding all of a sudden after good communication after the EMT is sent? I would cancel it and wait to hear back from him. Nothing wrong with asking for a phone number or a home address if its enough money to mean something to you. If they dont like your terms and your not comfortable, just move on, another deal will float by soon.

The only info a buyer has is an e-mail address. Yes when you send an EMT you get a confirmation number, but still: how secure are they? When does a guy try to pull the pin and hit the cancel? Tried to buy a few and sent EMT and the seller`s PM box is full and not responding to e-mail either. I get panicky when I don`t deal in person.

When the money is sent you are 100% vulnerable. If the other party wants to scam you there is nothing you can do.

Its like sending cash in an envelope to this person.

(FRAUD ALERT) is ####, yes. At least you can dispute and fight if something happens.

100% Agreed!!! (FRAUD ALERT) or COD. You EMT and hope for the best regardless of their rating, what if you could be that guy he takes off on? Then what? Your SOL!

Pretty sure (FRAUD ALERT)s policy precludes virtually all firearms related transactions...I wouldn't count on any protection from (FRAUD ALERT).

EMTs can be traced and the RCMPs fraud unit can investigate....but if its gotten to that level, I sincerely doubt you're getting any money back.

My rule of thumb is if i cant get there myself and pay i cant have it. Unless it's someone i know, or someone i know who knows that person well and can vouch for him/her. (then my circle grows bigger)
Firearm wise, i have to hold it at least once or better yet fire it(for used ones) to decide if i want it or not. For all other stuff i tend to buy from reliable stores online or local.
Never had a problem that way ;D

(FRAUD ALERT) is owned by the same whacko's who own E-Bay. Same rabidly anti-firearm ownership policies too. Like giving money to the assorted anti-fireram ownership groups. Use either and YOU are funding people like Crazy Cukier.

Lots of stores selling firearm stuff (not firearms) were TOLD not to sell that stuff if they wanted to continue dealing with them. WHAT!! I mean have i missed something? Pay-Pal telling peoples what to sell in their own stores!!! It's just unacceptable. I'm thinking of a particular store where the guy is bending over backwards to get cool stuff into Canada that no one else wants to deal with, best guy i ever had the pleasure to do business with was one of them of course he threw them out but still.

EMT is a very secure method for transfer of funds.

That is completely different than whether or not you can be suckered into using it when someone defrauds you.

Use common sense, and you'll be ok.

These things can be traced, should things go wrong.
That is far different than saying you'll get your money back - but if you were so inclined you could take action through civil court.
But that's a whole other thing that would probably just end up costing you more money.

Judgments of garnishment are possible, I suppose - but you would have to a lot of leg work to get there - or hire a lawyer.

EMT is safer then (FRAUD ALERT) in my mind. There is always that slim chance you send someone money and they drop off the radar, but thats why we have a trader rating system. I understand (my wife uses (FRAUD ALERT) a lot) that (FRAUD ALERT) pretty much always sides with the buyer in any dispute. Which means if you buy something, all you need to do it tell (FRAUD ALERT) you never got the item (no real need to prove this) and they give you your money back, leaving the seller up s*it creek.

How would you go about finding information on the seller from an EMT transaction? (in order to pursue them in small claims court)

I've never had any issues with EMT before...but after doing a bit of reading on it today I'm left feeling a little worried about the security of the whole process.
I try to be smart when dealing with online purchases, and don't deal with anyone on here with negative feedback or no feedback.
But once that money leaves my bank account, all bets are off.

From my recent experience, DO NOT send any money to ANYONE without getting an address and phone number PERIOD

I just lost 3900 dollars because I trusted a member with 30 positive trader rating.

City police in both cities have been contacted. I don't expect much help there.

Just tried his phone number....not in service.

Do your due diligence. And don't say anything on here....demerit points abound.

Later....

Ya it won't be going to the RCMP fraud section. Be sure before you send the money.

Paying for something up front prior to receiving the item can be risky , and not for the faint of heart . I ran into that problem years ago , and I said never again . I eventually tracked the guy down after he had skipped out with my money.....but the police were of very little help other than to say "BUYER BEWARE " . I now operate on the cash and carry system when dealing with private sales.....I give the cash , and walk away with the item in hand..........It used to be that a persons word was their bond , but I learned differently the hard way......

Not sure the information is available to the sender, but to the police definitely. They basically investigate and track, if someone is continually defrauding people, they will take action. But I wouldn't count on getting anything back

I've bought everything on the EE with EMT. About 10 transactions
Never had a problem. Don't plan to change how I operate. I hope that I can sniff out the problematic sellers, but I realize there's always a risk. Such is life.

Did you leave a bad trader rating ?

I've never faced the problem, so I can't say for sure.

But steps I would take should I need to would be;

contact my bank explain the situation and ask for transaction record.
contact police and file a report.
seek court order releasing unredacted information of the transaction from the bank (should the bank refuse your initial request).
Use the Freedom of Information Act as required to gather any needed information that may be available.
Provide negative feedback on this website, and ask other who may have had the same problem to share any information they have on that user.
File in Civil court seeking repayment and damages.

Lots of effort for yourself, or a big bill from a PI and then a lawyer.

Be aware police can do nothing in the most cases, like my one(you can find it in fraud report), RCMP had already found him by EMT address, but still cannot get money back since he told police he sent stuff out to me. I found it is really easy to fraud people here without punishments. Soooo sad

Generally I kick myself for opening a thread that is months or even years resurected from the dead.
But, in this case I thought it was worthwhile forgoing the kicking as AtomLew has first hand experience.
Was there anything ever resolved??
I am not looking for complete details Atom, just a Coles notes version if that would be allowed ...not breaking and web site rules and all.
How far does the guy who burned you live from you?
