How short would I have to cut a 300 RUM barrel to drop it to deer stand velocity?

As the title states. I have a near new Remington 700 in 300 Remington ultra magnum. I hunt in a Tree house type stand with a my buddies which has windows, heating and of course all the amenities. It is a hang out spot where we go to get away from the wives and talk ####. We even go in the summer sans guns while "watching for deer" Anyway, I generally bring something not suitable for deer hunting because I dont really want the deer when I am out when them. So if I have my .416 Rigby that day then someone else will be the one bringing a deer home ;). So my question is. How short would I have to cut this 300 RUM to bring it down to acceptable muzzle velocity if I were to use it to harvest a deer but to also have maximum noise, flash etc... and of course maximum theatrics. I am aware of the recoil that will result from this and can handle it.

Hmmmm, is this a trick question? What is acceptable velocity? Maybe just shoot heavy mono's and not worry about it...:)

yea but what fun is that. I want everyone around me to be in pain when I fire it lol,

Cut and crown at 19 inches... I know a 300 Weatherby at that length is brutal on anyone close...

recoil will be less as the velocity is less, but the blast level is higher

19 or 20" should be a flame thrower, ..Although I wouldn't do this to a friend, as hearing loss is no joke.

Everyone knows a 3000RUM can not kill a deer, best you stay home, your buddies will thank you.

Everyone knows reading skills are not important, best you miss the point in another thread, your fellow readers will thank you.

This is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you.

More then I was looking for. I figured recoil would be absolute hell.

Will they be more inclined to shoot the deer themselves instead of trying to get me to do it? I dont eat deer. I fill a few old guys tags for them out of their desire to eat deer and thats it, I have shot enough deer. I own a CZ550 full stock in 6.5x55 and a Brno 601 in 308 win for that. This rifle is meant to motivate those in the group with a lower deer body count to take the risk and shoot when their buddies are watching. I think it will work just fine.

Might as well throw on a Noveske Flaming Pig to concentrate the fire ball to more theatrical levels... tape a couple weiner sticks on around it too.

But as you cut off barrel, you are also reducing the weight, so depending on barrel contour, recoil may not change much.

A short, 18-20" tube would be entertaining for night shoots, but for shooting deer from a stand or blind, I'd go with a load of 44 gr 5744, held in place by a lightly tamped pinch of kapok (Dacron fiber fill) under a 200 gr, hardcast GC boolit . Ye get the same performance as a .303 Savage (Which has proven just fine on heavy game in our parts.), plus ye get the fun outta watching yer hunting buddies cringe when you go to fire one off. On deer & bigger critters, go for a shoulder, head or CNS shot. Lung shots only make for small wound channels without much shock value.

Another plus with loads like these is for when ye get the ladies out for a fun day of shootin' and they actually get a good experience shooting a big-ass magnum without feeling like Mike Tyson punched them in the face. Brownie points fer sure, Giggidy. ;)

Young folk that are used to 30-30's and such would not be bothered by a dialed down 300 RUM. It all be up to what folks want to have fun with.
