How to buy/sell firearm on internet?

I am thinking of purchasing and selling handgun on this website, for the first time. How to do that properly? What is established procedure?

I was thinking doing it in this sequence:

1. Upon price agreement, buyer will forward his PAL number and other info to the seller.
2. When CAFS is done its work, buyer sends the check and seller mails the firearm.

I don’t expect this to happen, but just in case:

3. If for any reason payment doesn’t go through, seller cancels the transfer and returns the check
4. If agreement was made for inspection time, buyer could return the firearm and seller cancels the transfer.
5. What is the procedure if for any reason buyer sends the check and seller doesn’t send the firearm?
6. Also, what to do if seller refuses to accept returned firearm, if previously agreed for inspection time frame?

Just to make it clear; I don’t have any intention to offend my future seller or buyer (as a matter of fact, I never had a slightest problem with any face-to-face transfer all this years), but would like to have everything straight before preceding.

Thanks on advice and all the best to all of you.

buy and sell

from my experiences on this site, just do one thing. COMUNICATE. As long as both parties agree to follow the same procedure the deal will work. And remember this site will not arbitrate any deals anymore.;)

When the seller send info to the CFC, he calls in with BOTH parties info. He gets a reference number and give it to the buyer. Then the buyer must call to confirm the info. Only then does the transfer process begin.
It might get sticky with the CFC if only ONE party calls to cancel the transfer. They will hold it if there's any fishy business.
In order to reverse the transfer, you would have to go through the whole process over again in reverse.
If the transfer goes through, the firearm belongs to the new buyer. If the seller refuses to send the gun, you could call the CFC or even the police.
If the seller refuses to take back a firearm, you have the normal avenues such as small claims court. As SS said, get lots of pics and ask lots of questions.
It is a little nerve-wracking buying over the internet, but if you go to the feedback forum, you will get an idea of who you can trust.

My experiences:

EMT (Electronic Money Transfer) to seller with Information (PAL, Name, Address) first - Seller calls CFC with info about the sale.
The Seller then calls/emails the reference number to the buyer.

The buyer usually calls to check the status (anxious) and gets approval then notifies the seller to send ASAP :) (When I sell, I am usually the one calling as I like to complete transferes quickly)

I will mention I have had a few people say "Ill buy it... can you wait for the money?" this "waiting" goes on for a few weeks and then communication stops. If I had started the transfer I'd have been screwed. So, money up first... EMT are pretty safe and a good way to go.

~Cheers

When I presented printout of this thread to the friend who purchased firearm through Canadian Access to Firearms, he told me that he is doing it this way:

1. Sending all info to seller with $100 deposit.
2. Transfer done.
3. The rest of the money sent to seller.
4. Seller sends the firearm.

According to him, all sellers he contacted agreed to this procedure.

As a matter of fact, all transfers except one, both ways, I had done locally were transfer first and money paid when firearms handed over. That only time guy asked money first (to my surprise) was from the guy in my club. However, the procedure “money first, transfer follows” must be the result of dealing with some not so “honourable” folks.
Regards!

I've bought several handguns via this site. Always paid in full up front. After funds received. [Money Order; EMT; etc] seller contacted CFC with all particulars [seller & buyer info]. Transfer initiated. When transfer completed/approved handgun was shipped to me. Have followed the identical procedure as seller, too.

Every deal has been 100%. The key is proper communication. And I will only usually deal with someone with excellent feedback. ;) :)
