I have a stainless steel revolver (matte finish) that has powder burn marks that are not easy to get rid of.

What is the best product out there to get rid of the burn marks with out damaging the finish?

If you can find it, there's this great stuff that is a must have for cleaning stainless guns...I think they call it 'elbow grease' ;)

I love stainless guns but they are a pain in the rear to clean!

I have a stainless handgun that has been Frog-lubed since new. It cleans up with just a quick wipe from a cloth, and then it's Frog-lubed again and is ready for the next outing. No effort whatsoever.

Happens with blued guns as well. Soak and Rub, is all I can suggest. I do that maint once a year. That burned powder residue is really stuborn stuff to remove.

Flitz on a soft cloth & a little rubbing and the gun looks better than new.

Or, if you are lazy like me, get an ultrasonic cleaner for about $120, fill with varsol, and run your stainless pistol through it for about 20 minutes with heat. Squeaky clean, just clean the bore with a brush, lube, and call it good.

Here is a good video on how to clean the burn marks from your revolver..

This works for the front of the cylinder but I would not do it on the cylinder flutes (which also get carbon buildup) because the Scotchbrite will dull the stainless steel.

Apply Hoppes #9 solvent and let sit for a bit then scrub with a brass, or bronze brush. Works for me every time.

X2 It is easier if you remove the carbon shortly after it was deposited: Maybe I have OCD, but I clean mine after I return from the range. I find it easier to clean the Ruger Mk1 than my stainless revolvers, but nothing beats the S&W revolver in range pickup ease and eye candy department.
