I just went through the trouble of fixing the registration on my Dominion Arms Grizzly Mag that went from an 18" Barrel from the factory to a 14" Barrel from a Norinco HP9. I had to make a number of phone calls and even had one lady tell me the 18" barrel had to be taken to the RCMP to be destroyed and that my new configuration would be restricted. She was NOT the correct person to talk to. After jumping through some hoops here is what I have to share to make your journey easier.

1) Call: 1-800-731-4000 ext: 1090

2) Explain what your trying to do. They may or may not have an FRT# for your combination. Either way they were very friendly and helpful.

3) Complete the verification form:

rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/form-formulaire/num-nom/804-eng.htm

3a.) WARNING!!! Be sure to include in the distinguishing characteristics box that you WILL NOT be installing a pistol grip on this firearm. I was told that if a gun becomes restricted it will never ever become unrestricted again. Please don't chew me out on this as it was what I was just told by a lady who certainly seemed to be helpful and know what she was doing.

3b.)You should also include where your new short barrel came from here. Failure to do so could slow things down.

4) Sit back and wait for your new paperwork to arrive. Drink a beer, or perhaps play a video game.

In Conclusion:
This may seem like an easy thing to complete but after talking to 3 different people who had no clue how it was supposed to work I assure you that if you have the right phone numbers and forms right off the hop you will save yourself about an hour and a half of your life. I hope someone finds this helpful.

the problem is that the low-level agents at the CFC are for the most part #%$^ing morons.
i phoned in to register a Dlask 12.5" barrel on an 870P. a pretty straightforward procedure i had thought.

i made sure to specify:
1. the barrel is 12.5" long
2. yes, this is a factory 12.5" barrel, made by DLASK Arms.
3. it is being used with a full stock - not a pistol grip.
4. the OAL is 31", well over the minimum OAL.

she said it had to be 'approved'. i asked her several times to make certain she added the above to the notes, and dictated it over again. she said she did.

a day later, i got a call from a senior CFC agent that was extremely polite, knowledgeable and helpful. the first things she asked me were:

1. what manufacturer was the barrel?
2. what was the length of the barrel?
3. was i using it with a pistol grip?
4. what was the overall length?

i answered the questions, then said WTF? i specifically dictated the answers to the above questions to the CFC agent when i phoned in, and asked her several times to please add it to the notes. 'there was nothing in the notes'.

anyways, it looks like you dont have to worry about it being registered as restricted by accident, since if theres anything out of the ordinary on the re-registration request it gets bumped up to a senior CFC agent who will phone you with any questions. i asked her if there was any chance that it could have been registered as restricted based on the fact that the initial CFC agent had not relayed any of the information i specifically provided and she said that no, they will call and ask if there is anything they are unclear about before they make any changes.
