How to cut a chromed barrel

I have a chrome lined SKS and VZ58 in 7.62 and while cleaning my guns I noticed that the chrome lining extends out over the crown and onto the muzzle of the barrel.
That made me think about how these barrels are manufactured and they're not cut and crowned from one long tube, or at least chrome lined after they are cut.

So, would cutting a chrome lined barrel damage the lining inside the barrel? Chrome lining prevents damage to the barrel with corrosive ammo and if the chromed muzzle is cut
off the new one isn't protected and will wear out sooner than the chromed barrel, decreasing accuracy significantly. Did I get this right?

I'm not planning to cut any barrels because that would make the guns restricted, and I don't want that. I also don't know how because I'm no gunsmith.
I wanted to sort this question out for a while.

Crown erosion is not an issue. The bore is pooched before the crown ever will be. The bullet remains in contact with the chrome lining all the way to the end. It's not an issue, many chrome lined barrels have been shortened without a problem. The only danger to the crown is from impacts and bubba.

I'm curious.

Saskcop were one to cut and risk flaking it all away, do you think the increase in barrel/bore width makes the rifle unfireable? Perhaps accuracy decreases?

I don't know either way and am looking forward to hearing from members like yourself. You hint it can be done?

I have an SKS that could use a 1/4 inch trim and a smooth finish for sure.

I have an SKS with a chrome lined bore that is counter bored. It came out of the box that way. Pretty sloppy job as well. It shoots fine for what it is and there is no sign of flaking. It has been mentioned in other threads that people have chrome bores that have flaking issues. I have never personally seen one. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen though. If the bore was prepared properly before being immersed in the anode tray there should never be an issue under any circumstances.

As stated above; hard chrome does not flake off like ornamental (soft/bumper/satin etc.) chrome will. If it does, well, it wasn't applied properly and would have flaked off regardless.

Good point on the flaking. I've never cut a barrel but I have re-crowned and threaded the muzzle on a few SKS's I've owned and never had chrome flake off.

Seen a few terrible SKS crowns at shops with flakes and chips from the factory but they probably shoot fine anyways for what it is.

Haven't re-crowned my current SKS but it's good to know the muzzle will outlast the barrel, wasn't sure about that.
