I just got a carbine upper that came with a Midwest Industries FF railed forearm. How do I get this thing off? I want to reinstall the factory handguards, but it looks like the delta ring was removed or cut off, am I going to have to take-apart the barrel. Is this possible without any serious tools? Thanks.

You will need to remove the front sight gas block, remove the old handguard, remove the barrel, attach a new delta ring to the bbl nut - then reassemble.

Depends what you mean by serious tools?
Punches, bbl nut wrench, receiver block.

I want to use a KAC M4 RAS with this particular setup, anyone in Toronto with an action block and a vise? I'll give up the rail for free if you can get my upper back to the original state.

If you want to ship me all the bits and pieces of what you have and what you want done I'll do it for you. Rail seems like a fair trade for the work. I have all the parts for the barrel ie, delta ring and bits. PM me if you want me to do this.
PS. I'm in Edmonton!

Thanks for the offer but I've already arranged to have it removed with a member in the GTA, if that doesn't work out I'll let you know. I'll take the delta ring assembly off you if it's Colt made. The rifle in question is a Colt LE6920-5 that I would like to keep stock.

I imagine the difference on a carbine-length barrel with a factory single stage trigger and Winchester White Box ammo on a 50 yd. range would be negligible. Non-FF would make it so much easier.

FF makes it more accurate.

also if the ff has rails you can add accesories.

You're right, the accuracy at short range is something of a moot point. The benefit of a FF comes with the reduced stress on the barrel by having all your acc. mounted to the rail(and subsequently the receiver) as opposed to directly on the handguards which pull on the barrel. This increases stress and affects barrel harmonics, and accuracy.
