how to deal with old ammo?

What do you have? I may be interested!
Or if you are just worried about it being old and unstable, etc. it is not like dynamite, usually still good to shoot or sell to collectors/shooters!
 
Headline: Dangerous cache of millitary ammunition turned in, Babies saved!

Reality: cleaned out the atic and found an old box of 16ga dominion shotgun shells.

That's why no police involvement.

Ain't that the truth!!They would be dead last on my contact list for something like this,not worth the possible hassles.
 
I take it to work and blow it up generally when we get rid of unwanted explosives or munitions. Call your local police, ask for the person in charge of EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), they have an obligation to come and collect unwanted small arms ammunition and dispose of it, no questions asked.

I'm sure every one horse detachment has an EOD waiting around. Every place I worked in good old SK had nothing of the sort. If the ammo looked like it was safe to shoot, we "destroyed it locally". Our EODs were also in charge of car washing, general duties and donut shop protection.:p

On a bit more serious note, people would want to turn in some really nice guns and ammo. I usually steered them to someone who would be able to make use of the goods, rather than cut up perfectly good guns.

And, no, I didn't take any home.
