How to destroy a 25-06!

thats what happen when you mix your ammo up and dont pay attention close enough.

when im hunting i only bring the ammo for the gun i shoot, if i bring more than 1 caliber gun, they stay totaly seperate (ie in their own ammo box clearly marked)

I don't get it. How the hell could anyone even attempt to do that? How could anyone be that stupid/careless/negligent etc...
Don't tell me someone did it deliberately as a test...

He had problems with his own rifle (.308) and borrowed the landowners rifle, apparantly he still had some .308 win ammo in his trouser pockets and after his first missed shot, reloaded without looking. He looks pretty hung over, I bet he had a rough night around the campfire!

The 308 would have had to forced in with significant effort.

This is a nth-hand story that will enter into Gun Folklore based on some pictures and an ever-embellishing story line. I don't call BS, but I'm not about to embrace it as fact.

He just had a firearm blow up 6" from his nose. No doubt he doesn't look fresh as a dazie.

Not true.........

Stand a .25-06 cartridge beside a .308. The .308 brass is just a shortened-up version of the venerable .30-06 so the brass would fit and feed quite normally. The shorter .308 cartridge would nicely feed its bullet's nose into the .25 bore. Closing the bolt would MAYBE push the bullet a bit deeper in the case, leaving the brass exactly where it ought to be, and a perfect fit in the chamber.

And there you have a simple to make, tidy little bomb!

Not only did he try to kill himself, but ruined another fellows rifle....Nice.

Stand the two beside each other and grab some calipers like I did. Measure the shoulder of the 308 and then measure the same spot on the body of the 25/06. The 308 is 5+ thou greater in diameter at that point.

Factory ammo and a slightly generous chamber dimension makes this a shoe-in, Andy. This is the second time I have heard of and seen pictures of this very mismatch. The other one occurred in soutwest states about 10 years ago. Same result to a very nice Winchester M70. It pays to watch what one is doing. Regards, Eagleye.

It is surprising (or not) what cartridges will chamber in what rifles, when you sit down and play around with them.

I've loaded .308 ammo into 30-06 and .270 chambers, I don't see why it wouldn't work for 25-06, too.

True enough, Andy, but I just tried loading my .308 snap-caps into my .25-06 and they loaded easily.
