I was approached by some relatives over the winter to go help out dispatch some problem critters, do I need to go the full blown hunting route with licenses, seasons etc... Or is there an exception out there for farmers and their crops/property/livestock that would allow me to go there legally and start working on the problem ? The idea is not to wait until late summer/early fall when the seasons open (depending on the critter that needs killing) when the damage would be done, which is what happened last year and so the operation ended up not being worth the effort.

Depending on what "critter" your are controlling, you might need to become an agent of the landowner. Possibly have to get special tags for nuisance animals, thats the way it works in Ontario for deer and such. Pests like groundhogs, skunks etc. I don't think you would have to do anything special. Contact the local gov. agents, they will be able to tell you.

Thanks, that's what I figured .... The critters in question are yotes and crows on one site (they started showing agressive behavior last year towards humans and horse and finally killed a bunch of semi-domesticated ducks/geese that the owner was pretty fond of), and the other site has trouble with cottontail rabbits which the owners only realised just how much crop damage they had done when they went to harvest. Groundhogs and pigeons are also present at both locations and are a "nuisance" but these are open year round over here so no need to split hairs.
