How does someone go about finding the owner/farmer of those huge grain fields in Alberta? I'd like to bird hunt legally and with permission but how do I find the owner when there isn't a building all the way to the horizon. I also guess it;s safe to assume that if there is grain growing on it then it is private. Any suggestions

the MD/County offices carry the land owner maps. some of the towns will have them available as well. i think Map Town in Calgary will carry some but check the date as they may be out of date.

To get an MD of Taber map call the MD office 403 223 3541 and i do believe they will mail you one for the cost of the map ($20 or $25 i forget which one) plus mailing. they do take crest cards i believe.

You can also pick up MD maps at places like Map World, that's where I get mine. You can also have them laminated if you have the $ and time.

Each MD produces it's own map, updated usually every 2-3 years. The prices will vary depending on the MD. As well, there is no real standard scale or map size.

We (my brothers and I and a few friends) used to hunt south of Lethbridge on a regular basis. One of the best investments that we made was a landowner's map from the MD.
One year we had permission to hunt on almost 50,000 acres!
