I want to replace the metal butt plate with a rubber one on a springfield composite m14 stock. I found out the top hole is stripped. Any idea on a fix...bigger screw? or maybe fill it with JB Weld and re-drill??

Anyone have experience with this problem?

try to fill the hole whit epoxy or polyester resin and re drill the the size of the screw shank or just put the resin and put the screw in it you can add some small fiber glace pieces in the resin may add some strength

hope that help

ok ok ok now help with me a stripped flash hider screw

It's backed out a bunch, so I'm thinking I will cut a slit into it with a fine hacksaw, just enough to get a slot screwdriver in and back it out. I was sold a replacement set screw by a fine handsome gentleman, so that's not an issue.

Does anyone else have a better idea for me? I've never worked with JBweld but my buddy used it to fix a cracked block on his engine and it worked somehow lol

Can you get a set of vicegrips on the bit that is sticking out?

If not, Know a friend that is good with a welder? You can put a nut over it, and weld the bit sticking out to the nut, then use a wrench on it. The heat sometimes helps loosen it. A mig with fine wire, or even better a tig to to the delicate job.

It's sticking out quite a bit, so vicegrips may work I just don't want to snap it. I have sawed slots into stripped screws before when working on computers (because that's what I do) and it worked well, but I was just curious if anyone had any protips

If its loose, it won't snap. But if its seized in there so tight its going to snap, then its going to snap regardless of method. If you're carefull to only apply torque in the desired axis, the vice grip method shouldn't do harm.

I'm just wondering that if its so tight that it stripped the head, will a cut slot be strong enough?
