I don't even know if this is the right forum to post, but will give it a shot.

Took my son to geese hunt yesterday, we spot a huge flock of snow geese in the field. There was a big patch of bushes between us and the geese. We crawled on hands and knees to get close to the geese. It was a successful ambush and a great hunt. After the hunt, I was so surprised to see my fleece camo was covered full of seeds, and turned into a porcupine!

It was a nightmare try to pick the seeds almost one by one by hand. I tried to use duck tape to pick them with minimal effect. I'm sure every hunter had same experience before. What are the best ways to pick the seeds off your cloth?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

oh man, ive sat there an literally picked out every seed or burr from my Tracky pants from hunting in the field during the warmer months.

I now use a material which wont collect certain seeds an burrs as well as use knee high gaitors..

theres proberly a dozen different seeds that like to burry in and hang on, whatever works for you is a bonus... a Scraper sometimes with tension can snap them of etc... but I find for the most parts its Live an Learn, use ya hands to get rid of them, then learn from it an wear different material on next hunt!

cheers

Oh don't remind me of the horror of those little black things that stick to your clothes. I was covered in them once and now like the above poster said its rare if I get one!

Ive had to pick them off one by one as well many times. Sometimes a piece of duct tape or a lint roller helps, but that depends on the fabric on how well it works.

Avoidance is the best strategy but I guess it's too late for that ;)
I feel for you though. Last year I walked into a new-to-me bush for some turkey hunting, following an old vehicle trail into the bush. It was dark but not so dark that I needed a light so I trudged merrily along, stepping over and against some chest-high weeds that were growing in the pathway...wasn't until sun up that I realized all of those tall stalks were burr bushes and I was covered! Spent the afternoon plucking burrs instead of feathers and I still find the odd reminder stuck in my clothes...

That's what you do while watching hockey later that day. Pick it all off by hand, I haven't found a better method.

Change clothing material.

I know better next time not to wear fleece camo and get into bushes and tall grass then. I'm wondering if there's a special burr removing brush out there or not? Meantime, I just have to pick everything one by one by hand.

There was an outdoors writer called Vance Bourjaily who wrote that he'd decided that his only real role in nature was to transport burrs and prickles from one place to the other. I had a dog with the same role, rabbits she chased would run her into burr patches and that was it for an hour or so- she'd get so covered that she could hardly walk and I used to carry a little pair of scissors to speed things up. Anyway, the way out is to wear burr proof clothing, it's just tricky to find such items that don't screech when being rubbed by branches. A Filson hunting coat (Barbours when it's raining), and a pair of nylon fronted trousers do the job for me. Allow me to easily walk through thorns and blackberries too, the blackberry canes here can easily rip regular clothing.

During the hunting season I leave those cling-on's stay to my clothing...............natural camoflauge.

Fleece camo........there's you're problem. I like denim camo, or other fine weave cotton. Still get burrs but that's about it.

Far as the seeds, a fingernail brush will help loosen them from the material so they're easier to pick but will also worry strands of the fleece I suspect.

You don't belong here. Can't you tell this is the "OCDs Anonymous" thread?

For the record, I just leave them there as well. Unless they are the big prickly buggers.

I just add water to my pockets. Germinate the seeds and you will have awesome 3d camo.

I just plant the trousers in a 1/2 oak barrel in the spring.
Water and pull the weeds when they sprout.
Pull them out in the fall.
Nothing like adding a wee bit oh earth smell to them.
