I am new to the world of guns, I just turned 18 and am living on my own. I was wondering what steps in what order I have to do to get licensed. So if in order someone can list what I have to do in what order to be able to get a gun and go hunting. (Ontario)

Good for you Alex! Here's a good tip along with what's already been given: get a REALLY good paying job... you'll need one if you want into this world!!!

Yeah, but really,,, if you know somebody who can take you hunting, you can borrow one of their guns, and since your starting out, .22 bullets are practically free! To get started, you can go take a PAL test, or study and challenge the test, I wouldnt be surprised if you find a local instructor and explain OSAP wont pay for PAL's :confused:then they'd give you some pointers.

Why not get a job at LeBaron's and you can share your employee discount with all your friends here at CGN!!!:D:D:D:D

LOL @ Viktor.

Is .22 ever really enough? No. How many people out there buy a .22 and stop there. Not too many I'd bet... not that there's anything wrong with that either!

If you want a typical hunting rifle/shotgun, you will need a non-restricted license. You will need a hunting license to hunt.

If you want a handgun for target practice (handguns can only be shot at a range) you will need a restricted license and a membership to a range.

If you read this it will tell you the steps on how to get a handgun from scratch:

If you join a club you can get everything. All licenses, permits, etc. (you'll need to if you want to shoot handguns anyways.)

you'll need to find local instructors for the PAL (Possession and Acquisition License for non-restricted [most rifles & shotguns]) and if you wish to own handguns and some rifles & shotguns (ie. AR-15) you'll have to take the RPAL (Restricted Possession and Acquisition License) program.

if you wish to hunt, you'll have to find out if there are any programs required (ie. like CORE [Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Education] in BC) before you can get your Hunting Number, which lets you purchase Hunting Licenses.

what province do you live in? then those who live there or know what the story is, can guide you when it comes to things like hunting. hunting is controlled provincially whereas firearms are controlled federally.
