I know some of you boys would have the anwser to this one. Im just wondering how to tell a stock made for the ATV from the SVT stock.

Three distinct features:
1. The wrist of the stock is thicker than a regular SVT stock.
2. The stock is inletted on both sides for the safety
3. The stock has been stamped with 'A' on the right side.

I have a regular SVT 40 stock on mine and it has that A stamp on it......the one I had looked at and thought of buying before I bought the one I have was a fater wristed one with a navy stock and the switch cutout on both sides of the triggergaurd, the guy who bought it just resold it because he couldnt hit anything with it ...barral was all shot out.

The stocks on late rifles were made thicker to help reduce wear and breakage at the wrist. If you look at P&S Militaria's site you can see some great pics of the stock repairs at the back of the reciever that was necessary on alot of rebuilds.

And...

"It is rather common to see these stocks on later reworked SVT40's since extra stocks were in place when AVT production was halted."

"Many of the currently imported SVT are fit with the later AVT style stock as many unissued stocks from earlier production runs were available post war and used in the rebuilding process."

Same reason we see M44 stocks on rebuilt M38s. The russians were masters of recycling. The parts are on the shelf and they fit.

mines one from trade ex...waited two years for that batch to come in and get shiped out to the fellow I bought it through .....from what I heard they got hung up in Germany, then sat here in customs for months, then got sent out to trade ex and sent down here to my local gunshop, what a hassle.

some idiot in customs was taking his time after raising a fuss over the ten rd mags.....the dolt!! just weld in that friggin junk of steel and let em go.
