How to make a M14 into a light bushwacker for hunting ?

Here you go. I did it for you. I am going to be asking M14Doctor to be my Canadian rep for this project.

As stated: lose the metal butt plate, don't carry the cleaning kit, chop the barrel, add a small red dot (don't know how it will hold up) or fixed power scope, use a short mag and don't load more than 3-4 rounds and get a good sling.

And get used to it. Its a heavy gun - remember original issue USGI M14 was fully auto.

so THATS how you do it on a shark...man, I was doing it backwards. seriously tho, I draged my baby through the bush during the first two days of moose season up "north". Shes no lightweight, but had no problem's. I got used to it, you will to :D

Its no heavier than the FNC1A1 we used to carry in the Forces. You get used to the weight. I wouldn't add a steel mount or scope unless you're benchresting it.
