How to make a non restricted vz58 look restricted.

So ive just order my vz (it hasn't arrived yet) and i had this idea. Ive always liked the look of the 15.4" barrel over the long 18.5". So i got the idea to move the front sight block back down the barrel to the 15.4 position and machine a custom muzzle brake (think ak type 103) to hide the remainder of the barrel. My question to cgn members is: what will this entail and how should i go about doing this? Should/can i machine the front sight block so it fits over the thicker part of the barrel? Or should/can i machine the barrel down so that the sight block will fit? What do you guys think?

Bc tactical made a barrel shroud that screwed on. You need to have your sight pressed back.
Cost was $200.

Be careful with your words, don't try to look "restricted" just look tactical.
I once considered this because it does look awesome. But using my iron sights became more important and I let the dream of a "look" die... Have fun...post pictures.

Sometimes we're guilty of trying to optimize the appearance of our rifles, instead of the performance...

I've noticed that at least on my 858, it doesn't look that bad in person with the non-restricted barrel. It doesn't even always look bad in pictures, I have a picture somewhere of me with mine and maybe because I'm 6'4, it even seems small in the photo.

Just my opinion.

A haa!!!! This is what i was looking for. Thank you. As for looks over function. That is why i bought this rifle. Looks. When it comes to function thats what my ARs are for. That being said, im not going to do a thing to it till i get a a couple hundred rounds down range. At that point i may decide function is more important to me. But my reason for buying it is: looks cool and ammo is a little cheaper than .223.

Like you, OP, I wanted my vz to look a certain way so I set out to make it so. Turned out very well :)

I originally thought about moving the front sight back as well, but that would involve permanent modifications (cutting out small cross sections on the barrel for the two pins) which I didn't want to do in case I decided to revert everything back to factory.

I'm loving this current setup as I can easily hit 8"x8" steel plates at 50m, and 15"x15" plates at 100m with the iron sights, despite having such a short sight radius. This isn't a precision rifle for me so I'm more than happy with that. I might eventually throw a red dot on it to be more precise, so that's always an option too.

Your idea of moving the FSB back to the 15.4" position will work, too. The barrel is the same diameter from muzzle to the gas block so no problem there.

That looks awesome! If my plan works out well my next trick will be to get a restricted 11.5 and attach the front sight post to the gas block. P.S. does anyone have an NEA hand guard set they want to sell?

Does anyone happen to have any pictures of a non restricted VZ with the front sight pressed back? The pictures in the linked thread are all gone and now I'm really intrigued with how it looks!
