If you want a “cheap” Garand IE from the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program in the USA) - find a small US gun shop that’s part of the CMP and ask if you can buy their next garand(s) when they arrive from the CMP. Ask what they will retail for. Offer more. Likely they will get several in their order. If you have the cash buy more than one. Import them via an importer there are several on cgn. Here is a screenshot of what field grade Garands sell for directly from the CMP to US retailers in USD. Or you can pay the $2800 CDN being asked in Canada - I'll let you guys do the math on the mark-up for crossing the border. I've got two US made Garand's for under $1100 CND a piece to my door after all taxes, import costs, FFL transfer etc.

Go to the CMP Site regarding condition of their m1 garand rifles
It will give you an idea of what you are buying

Same as the field grade CMP's being sold in Canada for $2800 CDN retail. Ill post pics of my keeper as soon as I can. I've seen a lot of CMP garands (mixmasters), and Ive seen a lot of beat up mix-masters over the years that I have no idea who assembled in Canada for sale for 2-3X the price. The CMP ones were no worse.

I believe your right I also don't believe the CMP Program sells to gun shops because of the demand on the limited supply they have.

They sure do sell from gun shops, although it could be the owner doing personal purchase to get them?. And they sure do end up in Canada. Tons of CMP Garands were (maybe still are I abandoned that site long ago) on the main US gun auction site and ended up in Canada as lots of US citizens seem to instantly flip them online as soon as they get them.

Heres the CMP eligibility rules for Americans to purchase from the CMP. You cannot directly as a Canadian.

Really? I thought CMP guns were banned from export or some crap that made them unobtainable to us? Am I wrong in thinking this?

CMP guns CAN be exported, just not by the CMP. We Canadians can't buy one direct from the CMP, because we don't meet the criteria required for them to sell to us.

Once they're sold to a dealer, they can be exported provided the proper paperwork is done and hoops are jumped through.
