I doubt SWFA will sell or ship to Canada

Suggest you go to "The Optic Zone"

I just got my package from them today. There is paperwork (you have to get a form mailed to you but the optic zone guy will explain it all to you) - all told 4-6 weeks to get your scope across the border.

SWFA will NOT ship to Canada.

Rifles scopes fall under the U.S. Commerce Dept's field of authority and they require a U.S. Export permit for any optics being shipped outside the U.S.

This also applies to rings & bases.

Ditto that, for if they fail to provide/set up the paperwork, the fines per transaction start at a quarter of a million dollars. Don't believe me, phone Midway and ask them. This also covers just about any other gun related part from a US dealer.

What about purchasing a scope when on a holiday and bringing it back with you?

You can NOT bring back a scope without a U.S. Export permit.

If you are caught by the U.S. authorities you will probably go to jail.

NO on the probably ,You will be detained and after you post your CASH bail and 100% not a percentage like Americans post they will let you go along with a court date to appear. Has this happened to me NO but it has happened to one fellow on this board a lesson learned .BTW they seized his merchandise only to have it sold or used by the Homeland security dept.

Military vs Hunting Scope Import

I heard that scopes that are not used for military application can be shipped to Canada or imported without permit.

However, there are many fine scopes such as Leupold that do not have military/sniper application that appear to be legal.

I would be interested to hear from an authority on this subject.

Thanks.

Thx Ted.:D

All firearms optics, bases, rings, etc, are under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Dept. of Commerce.

The Commerce Dept requires export permits for ALL the items they control. They do not have a $$$$ value exemption.

They got in trouble with the higher ups a while ago and enacted this policy.

This includes businesses and private sellers (such as on E-Bay).

If you are a newer member, PLEASE look through the Legalese Forum for info on import/exports of firearm related goods/parts from the U.S.
