How to pin a side folding stock?

Hi all,

I ordered a 12.5" barrel for my 870 and according to my calculations (which may very well be ####ed) I can no longer have my side folding stock, few inches to short while it's folded.

I was wondering how I'd go about pinning it so it's legal, because I don't feel like spending $ on a new one right now.

I have these pictures of the folding hinge part so maybe you guys can get some ideas. People said JB weld and stuff but I don't believe in JB weld and want something real permanent, not half assed. I was thinking bolting the two pieces together but bolts aren't exactly permanent, maybe welding I guess but I don't have a welder..

Thanks in advance

The only permanent method I can think of that stands a decent chance of holding its own would be to give it a few passes with a welder.

Other than that, maybe change out the stock?

If you weld it in an open position, you'll never be able to remove the stock from the receiver

Wow.. f:P: I didn't even think of not being able to get it off, that pretty much answers my question, thanks for the reply's guys.

Look at your first pic. Drill and tap the side of the hinge so you can screw in a 1/4" NF or 10-24 Hex head bolt so said bolt head bears against the mounting bracket, preventing the stock from folding. Mark the location to drill then disassemble the hinge by drifting the pin out so you don't drill into it. Tap the hole for the proper bolt thread size and cut the bolt to length so you can re-insert the hinge pin. Red Loctite the bolt into place. That about the only "permanent" solution that is easily undoable...kind of like using an aluminium rivet to pin a mag...it's officially "permanent" even if we all know it isn't! If you go to a longer barrel in the future you just have to heat up the bolt and back it out to regain your original folder.

Use a blackened bolt like these, but shorter so the flange of the head bears on the hinge...so it doesn't look too redneck! LOL!
