How to reduce flinching?

I recently picked up a .45 1911. I love it but I've noticed that I have a terrible flinch with it. I used to have one with my first gun, a 9mm but I no longer have one since I picked up the .45. Now I am wondering is there any other tricks to reduce flinching beyond "shoot lots"? Would I be able to reduce flinching with a smaller caliber handgun, like a .22? Or would it have to be the .45?

Well if the .45 got rid of your 9mm flinch, sounds like you need to get a Desert Eagle haha. The advice i got was just to practice a lot at home dry-firing or with snap caps. Watch yourself in the mirror if it helps. You might notice it's the way you're holding it, or finger placement that's causing it, or you'll just get so used to pulling the trigger without a bang that you'll help get rid of it.

I found putting the GSG .22lr kit on mine really helped. I switch back and forth several times during the day. Another thing that really helped was having someone else load my mags with one or two dud rounds. It would show you that indeed you did flinch. Once I realized that I actually did flinch it was mostly a mind exercise after that. Tell yourself it's perfectly ok to let the gun recoil. Nothing bad will happen. Just let the recoil happen.

Have a friend load a magazine with a mix of live ammo and snap caps (so you can't tell if you are going to fire a live round or not). Practice until the gun doesn't move when you hit a snap cap.
