Does anyone know how to easily remove a staked Russian SKS bayonet.....without buggering something up?

Get a screwdriver that fits the screw perfectly. Lean down with about 150lb of force, turn screw carefully. That loud crack is the staking letting loose. I had a bugger of a time undoing a Yugo baynonet...

Thanks!

I was afraid to apply too much force.

Does it mess up the threads on the screw at all when you reinsert?

150 pounds is for us sissy Canadians. To part that beasty screw you must be equal to the Boris Ivanovich that weighs 285 pounds Dry, and can apply a half a ton of angry energy on that screw, after a King size Vodka hangover. :pirate:

Well, I got the damn thing loose.

I guess a liberal dose of gun oil left to work it's way into the threads for over a week helps a bit.

I found a tight fitting screwdriver bit and gave it a good twist.

Surprisingly, it started moving without too much effort. Although it was tight and slow.

I didn't even bugger up the head or the threads it seems!:)
