How to remove Colt Series 80 Front Sight

If its staked in the traditional way, you need to carefully remove a bit of material from the bottom of the sight tenon (inside surface of the slide) to allow its removal. You don't want to grind out a bunch of extra slide material. After this, you should be able to work the sight loose and remove. The tenon is basically "mushroomed" to hold it in place.

Clamp your front sight in the jaws of a vice and gently rock your slide up and down. It will pull free from the sight after a few movements, saves removal of any material in the slide. Your sight will not be reusable when using this method.

I'd lightly dremel the bottom of the tenon. If it is post 1988 then it will be the wide tenon, instead of narrow.
Not sure the vise/rocking method would be advised on the wider one and the vise/rocking will be required even with some dremeling.
You will want to have a bit of relief into the slide, which should already be there, so that the staked material has some place to go instsead of interfering with the bushing. A little bit more won't be a deal breaker as long as you don't go totally nuts.
Take your time tapping the metal with the right swaging tool when replacing. Pretty DIY freindly job, with the right tools.
