How to remove endcap from a barrel shroud?

Hopefully a picture and short explanation will help.

I'm trying to remove the endcap from a barrel shroud on an air rifle. It appears that Air Arms secured the endcap with a clear thread locker and I can't seem to get the thing off. I've tried heating the endcap with a heat gun to 650 degrees (according to the specs of the heat gun) and using a silicone oven mitt to twist it off but it won't budge? I'm probably not applying enough force using the mitt but I don't want to mar the cap by using pliers.

Anyone have any suggestions on getting the endcap off? Maybe more heat needed with a butane or propane torch but will it damage the aluminum anodizing? How can I get a better grip on the endcap without damaging it?

Really appreciate any suggestions.

How are you set for tools? Bench vise?

Drill a hole the same size as the shroud end in a block of wood. Split the block through the hole, and trim up the split edges.
Wrap a strip of plain paper around the shroud end, place the split block of wood over the shroud end, and clamp in a bench vise.

The paper should prevent marring, the wood, once compressed, should create a pretty solid grip.

Similarly, you could clamp the wood in place by drilling a couple holes and running some bolts through them, to clamp them together. Even with just that, you should have a lot better grip, but you could use a wrench on the wood blocks, if need be.

leather strap wrapped around it and a stick to tighten and twist.
I have a couple sizes of strap wrenches ( rubber belt) that will works good on this kind of thing, sometimes.
Or a vise grip chain wrench with a rubber padding.
