I am going to switch out my flash supressor on my m305.How in the heck do i get the factory one off? From my understanding it is welded on.I have tried a few different things an no dice.Is there a secret out there to doing this.I don't wanna get to medevil

look for a hole that was drilled and filled with weld on the flash hider. the fill is more cosmetic than functional, just carefully drill the weld out. dremel is good if you know how to use it properly.

No point in switching out something that you can't use and will have to sell to BlackFace in the next year and a half. But if you really want to, a Dremel with a carbide rasp works well. The welds are more than just cosmetic for most of the m305s so you will have to take your time but most people just take off the grub screw, back off the nut a little and hit the flash hider with a blunt cold chisel. The welds are more brittle than the surrounding metal so it should fracture with a couple of hits. You can find tutorials on line. I've done it both ways and they are both the same level of difficulty. Keep in mind the m305s don't have a standard thread pitch.

I loosened the nut, put the barrel in a vise, lined up a thick steel bar (blunt chisel would work nicely) and wapped it with a big hammer a few times. Mine had the two spot welds and they failed quite cleanly.. no damage to the barrel or the flash hider.

The really hard part was finding something else to put there. I was not happy with the only muzzle brake I found in that thread pattern

I do not support the brute force method. The welds are often poorly penetrated spot welds that break fairly easily, but not always. If the welds are sound, you will do damage before they break by a simple beating. Count on drilling or grinding them a bit first.

Whatever you do, don't turf the castle nut. The threads are metric versus the imperial on American made M1A/M14's so reuse it if you're putting a USGI flash hider on that still needs it.

Big chisel or blunt bar to the back of the bayo lug and a 4lb dead blow.
Have done dozens, 90-95% of the suppressors survived... most aren’t worth keeping anyway
