How to remove rear sight of Israeli Mauser?

Hi,

I want to give this bubba victim a new live as a varminter, but I need to remove the rear sight since it touches the scope. How can I do that without using a hack saw?

It is soldered on so warm it up with a torch and whack it with a wooden hammer. (toward the muzzle). There might also be a set screw that needs to come out first.

.... Perhaps there are three, easier alternatives; use a "scout type mount" that fits in the rear sight base, higher scope rings,and simply remove the "ladder portion" of the rear sight . I would assume that you've already tried simply moving the scope further to the rear ? Even if you do knock the rear sight in it's entirety, loose, it will probably have to be cut to slide over the foresight, unless that's already been removed . .... David K.
