How to remove skateboard tape

Hi,

How can I remove old dried out skateboard take from a pistol grip without damaging the blueing?
This stuff is as hard as rock.

I'd try a heat gun or hair dryer at at distance. Low and slow just enough heat too loosen the adhesive of the tape. Then your gun cleaner of choice to remove what evers left of the glue.

You are right, I just used my creme brule torch and heated the grip slighty, then worked on it with a wooden chop stick, finally rubbed ii off with 70% alcool.

All gone and beautiful now.
this skateborad tape must have been there for at least 30 years.

Glad that worked for you. Another approach that works is using lighter fluid. It's not harsh, won't damage finish, but is excellent for removing adhesive, sticker, what have you. Just soak it a few times, and carefully work off the tape or whatever.
