How to remove the front sight from a P14?

I am restoring a P14 Enfield back to full military. I have finally assembled the new stock pieces and all the various bands, nose cap, swivels, etc, However, it appears that the original front sight must be removed to install the new upper band (nose cap which holds the lower and upper stock wood together. The front sight assembly seems to be held on by a small pin. Do I tap this out and then remove the assembly or is there a better way. Thanks.

Yup...

punch the pin out....

tap the sight assembly forward(off) the barrel

There wil be a small 'bit' left over that the pin goes through on the barrel.
