How to remove the rear sight on a Browning BLR .22 ?

Hi.

Can you please tell me if the proper way to remove the rear sight on my Browning BLR .22 is with a hit with a punch on its side ? or is there something I should be concerned with before removing this rear sight.

Brass or nylon (better of the 2) punch and drift it out. "usually" hit from the left to the right, although on the browning, I doubt it has a directional taper of the dovetail.

or

you could take it to a gunsmith (and he will likely drift it with a punch also.)

btw- get some fine steel wool with a good oil to get that rust down.

The manual shows moving for windage using a round soft drift and hammer.
I would tap the sight out as bollox mentioned.....from left to right as you were
aiming the rifle.
