How to Remove the SKS Bayonet

Now, I know this sounds like a really silly question, but I CANNOT seem to remove the bayonet on my SKS. I pull it to the halfway point (from which you can remove the cleaning rod). I have a new SKS Bipod that attaches where the bayonet does, and I cannot get the screw that holds the bayonet in to move even a fraction. Suggestions? I am using the proper size screwdriver, is there a specific position the bayonet needs to be in?

Do you have access to an impact driver and an appropriate bit? Maybe wedge something between the tang/spring loaded part to take the tension off the screw?
 
You just have to keep trying until you get that screw out...maybe try finding a flat head that will fit inside a socket,,,then use a ratchet and some wd40..
I know what you feel like when you have a part to put on but are having a hard time removing something....FRUSTRATION!!!!!!!!

Sadly, I have no access to tools. I could try to borrow a cordless drill and chuck a screwdriver into it as a possibility?

Thanks driver, it is EXACTY how I feel. Also mixed with annoyance at how easy it seems for others and yet it is more difficult in my instance. Perhaps someone will be able to aid me in this, lots of WD40 for sure!
 
Don't use a cordless drill, you will most likely strip the slot. An impact driver would most likely work. WD-40 is not a very good lubricant. A penetrating oil or even Gigaloo would be a better bet.
 
If you have access to vice grips, grip the shaft of the screwdriver and use that as a mechanical aid?

I've never had a problem, so maybe you just got a sticky/rusted/seized screw? Some jig-a-loo or similar penetrating oil would likely be a good first step in any case.

You do know that the screw holding the SKS bayonet is under spring tension right? Be careful when you do manage to pull it out, the bayonet will launch itself about four feet in whatever direction it happens to be pointing in. Ask me how I know.
 
Ok... under srping tension, the screw itself... I suppose so... huh... ok. I will try that. Impact driver, I do not have that kind of accessability. Sorry. We'll see what can be done
 
Grab a big ratchet (hope I spelled that right) with a real long tip. Keep the blade in the loose position. Add some Kroil to the threads and let sit for a little bit. Then put the flat head adaptor on your ratchet and crank for mother Russia! Litterly go midevil Russian on the SOB & it will lossen. Then close the blade & proceed to take out the rest of the screw. DO NOT ATEMPT TO REMOVE SCREW BEFORE CLOSING THE BAYONET! It will launch like an RPG.
 
goto crappy tire and get their foot long screwdriver(maybe 7 bucks i don't remember how $ i paid)
close bayonet (towards stock).
turn counter clockwise slowly,if screw starts to strip,STOP!!!

if that fails:
get some "valve grinding compound" (best stuff) or just plain fine wet sand.
place this concoction on the screwdriver blade(don't be shy,put a good bit on) and SLOWLY TURN WHILE PUSHING ON SCREWDRIVER(please don't spear yourself if 'driver slips off...
