I have no powder burners. I have been directly exposed decades ago (early 80's in EU and mid 2000's in US) and since then never wanted to throw my money on it.
But I've got airguns, high power PCP's and probably costed me way bigger pile of cash vs an ordinary firegun collection.
For a second year waiting for membership at one of my closest ranges and looks like I can get a share at Sharon.
Benchrest shooting is in my main interest, with an airgun. If everything turns out as planned I will be getting a lot of weird look.
:)
How to prepare

maybe the weird look will be from confusion at not being able to recognize the firearm

Then show them your target group and that should lead to smiles

took a buddy to the range and he brought his full auto airsoft, no funny looks. Actually others were interested to fire it.

Powder guys always look at Airgunners as being different, especially when you have a scuba tank with you. :)

Deep down in our ancient neural network we are hardwired to throw, sling, arc, fire projectiles at targets. Accuracy and precision are instinctively qualities of goodness. We all know these things to be self-evident and true. Its in the DNA. Its why we humans survived. We are all born shooters. Muscle power, rocks, throwing sticks, spears, bending wood and gut strings and arrows, compressed air, exploding chemicals and metallic projectiles, its all good.

I think something will be lost however when we invent ray guns like in sci-fi movies and comic books: no projectile, no arc or drop due to gravity, no windage or atmospherics, no recoil, no reloading skills (just plug it and recharge it), no real skill, just point it....boring.....

get one rifle having a rod with a flag on the end that says "bang" whenever the rifle is fired. if it works for bugs bunny, it should work fine if there are any fudds where you're shooting at. :)

actually, those high power air guns are pretty neat. apparently, they worked well enough for lewis and clark to take one on their travels and amazed the natives, with enough power to take down most animals.

Can't be much worse than the strange looks I get shooting bullseye style with a single shot target pistol in 22 LR. A Hammerli Model 150 with ergonomic Morini grips.

Years back I had a .22 short semi target pistol. I reasonably sure most of the members dropped over and inquired as to what is that ? A bit worried at the start , once told what is was they all lightened up.

Maybe stop looking for that, you seem to be looking for it.
