how to sell an antique pistol

Hello im new to this web site , My Question is how would i go about selling an antique pistol . It is a 1815 pepper box . I do not have any permits or such .It was passed down to me . Thanks for any help . Dave
 
The gun is exempt from registration and is legally defined as an antique under cc84 1a and exempt from registration under cc 84 3. You would sell it as you would any other antique.
I suspect your date might be a bit early and the date more likely between 1825 and 1860 because percussion ignition took a while to catch on.

post a picture and we'll see if we can ID it. Then, post it in the Equipment Exchange forum. As mentioned, any percussion gun made before 1898 is antique...no registration, no license, simply sell it like you would grandmas rocking chair:)
 
Thank you for all your answers , they are very help full . The gun is a Allen&Thurber , the date is 1815 or 1875 . The 7 has a scratch that makes look like 15 . Thank you again dave
 
Allen &Thurber date to roughly 1835-42 in Grafton then Norwich in 1842 and Worcester, Mass in 1847. The Worcester address should have the name Allen, Thurber & Co. After 1855 the name became Allen & Wheelock. There are several models of pepperbox and the caliber in part defines the model.

Take your time and figure out the market. Start watching the USA auction and collection sites on the net. Or just send it to me for 50 bucks!
