How-to...Swap AR buttstocks...?

I want to replace my collapsible AR buttstock with the 'solid' version ("A2"-style).
I've got a good Norinco buttstock, spring, and buffer, but no 'receiver extension tube' that will fit into it.
The one I've got on the rifle now is only about 6" long and not entirely cylindrical.
Question is, do I need a correctly sized extension tube, or are the spring and buffer meant to just drop into
the A2 buttstock without one? :confused:
 
you need an A2 buffer tube like this.

You need a A2 extension tube AND a rifle length buffer and recoil spring.

Yeah, thanks guys. I figured as much, but wanted to be sure. I got the stock, spring, and buffer from a friend who replaced them with usgi ones, but re-used the Norinco receiver extension tube. When I attempted to install that stock on mine I noticed something was missing.
Can you recommend a Canadian supplier of these extension tubes?

Not sure if the Norc stock have a spacer or not. A2 stock require a spacer for the buffer tube.
 
I've got an a2 complete stock with rifle length buffer and tube. just took it off an AR.

Now I am selling it. If you're interested let me know.

Please tell me your NOT trying to re use the carbine buffer and spring off your CQA with a rifle buffer tube? Seems like your little miss educated about AR15s. IF you use a carbine buffer and spring in a rifle length buffer tube damages or injury can occur. Due to different length springs and buffer. The bolt carrier will jam into the buffer tube ( AKA face )

Note the Difference ( TOP is Carbine Bottom is Rifle that required for fix stocks )

Thanks for the pic, Brainma--YES, that looks like the part I need, just not sure of the correct length, or if a spacer is required.

Robert McC: Thx so much for the illustration and your concern for my safety. I am not an AR "specialist", but I do know a thing or two
about guns--'old-fashioned" ones, at least-- I trained on the M-1 rifle ("Garand"). When I got 'deployed' to my TO&E outfit in Germany, I was
issued (among other things) an M-14. Near the end of my enlistment there were rumours circulating that the Army's new battle rifle was going to be a plastic .22! We all thought it was an April Fools' joke. Seriously?? I never even saw one until after I got out of the service. I recently decided to pick up one of those "new"(!) rifles and have not had time to totally familiarize myself with it (so many guns, so little time!). So spare a little patience for this old-timer.
One of the benefits of being a member of this forum is being able to tap into 1,000s of years of collective knowledge and experience. Whenever I have a question about some aspect of firearms, CGN is my 'go-to' resource. Likewise, I'm always keen to share of my own experiences whenever I feel I can contribute. (BTW--I'm not actually "new" to the forum, either--I'd been a member here for four years before my computer went to pieces back in August, and I had to re-join again from scratch).
OK, sorry for the diversion there.

To recap, what I've got here is a full-length, non-collapsible, Norinco buttstock, a spring measuring 13", and a buffer 6" long oa. The front of the buffer contains a 1/2" tapered yellow bit. The rear of the buffer has two integral flanges/rims 1-3/8" apart. These rings each have 3 flats.
Sorry for the lack of pics but the camera is over at Ordnance getting repaired. Maybe back next week.

What I do NOT have is the correct 'receiver extension tube' to put the rest of the bits onto my lower. That's what I'm in search of. Now some posters have mentioned this "spacer" that I'll need as well, and I want to be sure I'll be ordering all the correctly sized parts.
I might just have ordered the entire "DPMS Blaster Pack A2 Buttstock Kit" for about 100 bucks at SFRC, but they're sold out
Can you tell me exactly which parts to order and from which supplier? I want to get it right.

I'd question whether the Norinco stuff is in spec?
Look at an exploded view of an AR butt assembly then go to Brownells and order your missing parts.
Most of the time the entire assembly is cheaper to purchase as a group rather than piecemeal.

All's well. One of our members here on Vancouver Island provided just the part I needed

I put it all together and installed it last week, then took it out to the range for testing. It's all good!

Details, details...("IIRC"!).
OK, the gracious contributor (q.v) handed me all the necessary bits n' bobs in a plastic grocery bag in the carpark. I reached in, hauled out the buttstock, thanked him profusely, then tossed the bag into the trunk of my car. Later on I offloaded the trunk and toted the bag
down to my arms room. The following day I opened the bag with the intention of installing said buttstock when I began to suspect some
vital part was missing. It was at that point this thread originated. Some days later I returned to search the car's trunk for traces of the missing
receiver extension tube, noticing several deep pockets in the trunk's floor. Closer scrutiny of these pockets was rewarded when
the extension tube revealed itself. The bag is suspected of coming open during one of the car's spirited cornering maneuvers, whereupon the (black) tube rolled out and found shelter in this (black!) hole.
Meanwhile our gallant contributor was madly :runaway: searching his own parts cache for the fugitive tube.

I did remember to notify Mr. M. of the discovery at my earliest convenience. :bigHug:
