How to tap my 870 express.

Shotgun receivers can be thin and difficult to tap because of it. Easy to screw up if you've never done one before.....I'ld recommend getting it done properly the first time by a Gunsmith.....
 
There is a base made that the screws go through the receiver on the rounded part. The rounded part of the receiver is almost an eigth of an inch where the top is only a sixteenth of an inch. I have put a few on and they are strong.

It's not a hard job if you have a drill press. If you want to do it by hand, you'd better know what your doing and keep it straight, I'm not sure I would unless it was life or death and I'm a tool and die maker with much experiance.
If you arent' sure how to go about it, you are probably better off going to a smith, nothing is more annoying then buggered up holes in the top of your gun;)
 
I do them on a mill (leaves out any possible errors) and there is plenty of "meat" to do drill and tap:

I called a smith about mine, he wanted $3 a hole and about $17 for a base... he said it would only take a minute if I could wait for it...
 
I've done rifles before and They turned out well. I was not sure what bases to go with on the 870 either as that might make a difference as to where I put the holes for taping. If you have recomendations I would love to hear them.

Weaver #93 base should work fine for you.
