I have a glock 21 with Adjustable sights. Got it off the EE a year or so back. Just wondering how to tell what Gen it is? Can I check the serial number?

Thanks

Here’s the info you need. The first Glock 21s were Gen 2s, around 1988.

If it has finger grooves, it’s a Gen3. If it has changeable backstraps, it’s a Gen 4. If it has neither, likely a Gen 2.

There were no Gen 1 G21s. Only the 17, 18, and a small number of very collectible 19s.

Gen 1 Glocks have a smoother, pebbly finish all around the grip. I've never owned a Gen 1 so I've got no pictures—they are pretty uncommon.

Gen 2 has no finger grooves and a more aggressive texture on the front and back of the grips.

Gen 3 has finger grooves and the same rougher texture as Gen 2

Gen 3 RTF2 has finger grooves and small pyramid-shaped bumps on the grip

Gen 4 has finger grooves and more texture on the sides of the grip but with larger bumps than the RTF2 (and removable backstraps too)
