How to tell Glock gen 3/4 apart?

I ordered a glock 17 gen3, the transfer notification has right serial number but wrong model, says gen4. The glock has 2 mags and no holster, I think the gen 3 comes with 3 mags... Anybody?

Is the incorrect model number a big deal?

Look on the slide - It will say Gen 4 if it's a Gen 4

What it comes with depends on where you buy it from some times...

My Gen 4 came with 3 mags

Gen 4 mags have 2 notches cut into them and Gen 3 only has one notch on the left side.
This becuase Gen 4 have a mag release that can be switched to the right side.
Gen 4 pistols come with removeable back straps and come with a couple different sizes .

Gen 4's have removable back strap's, Gen 3's do not.

Also like was mentioned above if the slide doesn't say Gen 4, than it is not one.

Gen 4 has a larger STOCK mag release, different texture (I believe?) and a push through pin on the back for interchangeable back straps.

All generation glocks have that pin .. It is utilized more in the gen4 as you get different backstraps and a third choice in the fall with the reported Gen4 beavertail .. There is a third party beavertail add-on that also uses that pin location for all glocks .. 21's may require a bit of fitting ..
