How to tell if barrel is pinned or threaded SKS

look where the barrel meets the reciever; if the barrel maintains its size as it enters, it is pinned, if it expands and has a flat spot on either side, its threaded; also if its pinned you can actually see the pin where the barrel and reciever meet.
thats the best i can describe it without pics

What's the difference if the barrel is pinned vs threaded?

What is more sought after and what's the pros & cons?

Is this applies to all sks or just the Norinco?

Thx

Only with Chinese SKSs. Really there are no differences, outside of preconcieved notions. The pinned seem to shoot better than the threaded ones.

Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Just got my first sks (Russian) lately an I am still learning!:p

Cheers

all russian are threaded . my 2 early chinese are also threaded

but my 1 late norinco "D" is pinned , dont find much difference .

I have both and can't see any difference to accuracy etc.

About the only thing I can see different would be the method of removing the barrel.

You would probably need a pretty large gear puller to remove a pinned barrel.

Threaded, just a big wrench and a good padded vice.
