how to tell what kind of barrel on AR?

I have an AR with a sabre defence lower and an armalite upper, i was just wondering how you find out what kind of barrel is on the rifle? the outside of the barrel is not the same texture as the rest of the AR (not anodized), it has like a 'sparkly, sandpaperish' texture to it...

Probably under the hand guard in an impossible to read spot… as mine is. On any AR the barrel is not aluminum and thus will not look the same as the rest of the receiver. But, yes yours appears to be a light grey color.

the barrle is steel so it should have a parkerised finish, a rought etched looking finish is black/gray.
The upper and lower will be a black finish on the alumiinum called hard anodized.
as for the markings it if could be anything from a small mark to a full description I.E S&W 556 nato 1/7 ,or nothing at all.
