If you opt for the boiled linseed oil, take care to dilute the two first coatings with turpentine 50/50 to allow more seeping into the wood fibers. Allow to dry one or two days between coatings and roughen the finish slightly with 000 steelwool before reapplying the second coating. Wipe ALL that dust with a slightly damp lintless rag before the second coasting too.
Then do the same for the third and fourth coating but use very small quantities of linseed oil full strength and rub it real good to make it heat up.
DO NOT KEEP THE OILY RAGS IN A HEAP!
PUT THEM IN A METAL CAN WITH WATER AND CHUCK THEM IN THE REFUSE BIN.
Good luck!
