Just got back from duck hunting. Before you ask - no hunting wasn't any good. So, back to the question. I must have slept through my firearms safety course because I do not remember how to unload shotgun. I thought its simply matter of pumping shells out. Ted Williams though locks the pump so I have to pull trigger and then it unlocks the pump again. Is it the case with all pump shotguns? Any way to unload that thing without making BOOM.

Look forward or to the rear of the trigger guard, there should be a button to press that unlock the slide. At least this is the way on Remmingtons and Winchesters, can't remember about Ted Williams but I recall that they are similar to Mossbergs.

tenexx is right i think. if your tw is a model 200, it is the same as a winchester model 1200. there should be a button on the bottom left side at the back of the trigger guard. Push the button in and hold it down, the action should now open as you work the pump, ejecting a shell on each cycle until it is empty.

make sure the safety is ON during and keep your finger outside the trigger guard during the whole procedure.

I hope you didn't transport the shotgun loaded, cause thats a bad idea.I take it this is the first time you've ever used this shotgun, i always aquaint myself with my guns before shooting but especially before hunting.

"...the case with all pump shotguns?..." Yep.
Ted Williams is a brand name used by several U.S. department stores, years ago. It's likely an Ithaca Model 49SS. However, like tenexx says, there will be a button on it near the trigger guard.
Your firearms safety course wouldn't have covered every make of firearm. Transporting a loaded firearm is illegal. You really shouldn't be shooting any firearm that you don't know how to operate.

OK guys, I think he's learned his lesson. No need to make him feel like a complete idiot. I can't say I've ever done anything similar but I could see it happening. You get a new gun, you're young and and want to go "play" with it right away. Or how about, you just got a new gun and hunting was the first opportunity to use it due to a hectic work schedule... the possibilities are endless. He goofed up, he was "man" enough to admit it and ask for help. I think that ought to be commended. Yes, transporting a firearm loaded is illegal, but it really isn't that dangerous. If he transported it loaded, that was probably a mistake as shells are quite inexpensive and since he was duck hunting, he would have only had three in it, so I'm sure he just shot them off. But even so, if he did transport it loaded, the only risk was getting caught which was a rather slim chance. Not one I'd ever take or condone, but done properly, is completely safe.

22lr, good luck with the new gun. Learn everything you can about it and have fun hunting in the future. I hope you get lots of ducks! :)

"...cop "ROTFLOL station your not gonna believe this..." Chances are the cop wouldn't know how to load a pump shotgun either. Buddy of mine's brother was a TO cop, long ago. He and his partner got assigned to the 'bank' car one day. Said car was the only cop car that had a shotgun in it. Neither of them knew how to load it.
