How to use mod 70 safety

Sometimes I wonder if the people who are terrified to take a shell out of the chamber without a safety on are just as reluctant to chamber a shell without the safety on. This never seems to come up, nobody mentions it.

I very rarely use a safety for either application.

Local traditions usually perfect sense there. The mistake is assuming that they are some universal principal that applies to everyone, everywhere.

The only universal principle that I go by is that if I am in a situation where I think I won't be able to control the muzzle, I make sure my chamber is empty. As I hunt in a variety of terrain these situations are purely subjective and dependant on my own experiences.

And yet lived to tell of it. Some people seem ready to fly into a berserker, shield biting, floor licking rage at the very idea of having to tKe a safety off to unload a chamber but get all whiiney when I ask them how they managed to get in there in the first place. Just one of life's mysteries I guess.
