When I rotate the laser boresighter in a barrel, you can see the POI shift slightly, which means the laser isn't pointing straight. I noticed there appears to be some windage and elevation adjustments on the boresighter.

Any idea how to zero a laser boresighter? Can't find anything on Google - all false positives.

Put the gun in a vise, aim the laser at a target x distance away. Put a mark on the paper where the laser hits. Rotate laser pointer in the bore 90°, mark the dot, rotate 90°, mark the dot, rotate 90° mark the dot. The intersection of the 4 dots is the center of the bore. Mark a dot, then adjust the windage and elevation so the laser hits the center point.

Laser boresighters are handy for sure but there never precise. If your boresighter uses a plastic wedge that goes into the barrel make sure you have a tight fit when your screwing it out during adjustment. I always ensure the fit is tight but not forced. I use a cleaning rack or even my bi-pod to steady the firearm during sighting of the reddot, scope or even irons. I actually aim from my living room down the length of may house to the far hallway wall. I make sure its dark enough to see my laser dot and then move the optic point of impact to the laser dot. This is good enough to get me on paper at 50 meters and then I do my final adjustments at the range. I then move out to 100 meters depending on the caliber. There may be better ways to do this but it has always worked good for me.

Excellent method and well described!!!!!!:)

Thanks! Only tried one once, as sticker mentioned they are not the most precise instruments. With my bolt guns I just pull the bolt and put a sticky on the wall that I can see through the bore, I make a dot with a pencil, or move the gun on the bipod until I can only see the corner of the sticky note. Then I move the reticle to the dot plus the height of scope over the bore. Got it down to a science, gets me on paper every time. Couple times almost zero and no $99 laser to buy

Brilliant!! Thanks. I forgot I wrote this post, hence the long response time, but the simplicity of this approach deserves applause.
