To me, the chronograph is an essential tool in a reloader's arsenal. It is an easy way to verify valid velocities as well as giving a good indication of if you are within safe pressure ranges. Besides, if you are asking within the realm of target shooting, then yes it is critical. Target shooters want to have as little recoil as possible while maintaining a high enough power factor to qualify.

With everything I shoot, I don't leave home without my Chrony ! All it does is educate you on what your loads and your guns are doing, and I like to know as much as possible. The Master series of Crony's are very good value and have never left me down, even with my bows !
