Just wondering what the bird hunting was like in Alberta this year ? Specifically Huns and Sharpies. I was out last year and numbers seemed to be way down. Just wondering if there was any sort of recovery for the birds. I usually hunt the area around Taber and south from there.

I can't give you an answer from Taber south, however in my area which is directly east of Okotoks the number of Hungarians were up significantly. I was out quite a bit scouting for mule deer I witnessed seeing 20 to 25 huns per flock and there were a lot of flocks. As for sharptails, they were up to par for the course. Pheasant were up and needless to say migratory was defining. Lots of duck and geese all over the place!

I had much better luck last year versus this past fall. Last year I took grouse, sharptails & even spotted a willow ptarmigan.
This year in the Cold Lake/Bonnyville, some hunters had good success early on, but I found that many others did not fair so well.
And a special trip towards Smokey Lake, I came home empty handed. Supposedly ruffies numbers were up near Edmonton region. Myself I did have the luck this fall to experience that.

OMG What a different story to your neighbouring province of Saskatchewan............ Upland game picture very dismal there ...... though Sharptails in spots seem manageable.

Hungarian partridge in most of S Sask along with whitetal deer are now scarce..
