How was your Late Season Goose Opener?

For me and 3 of my buddies, yesterdays hunt was the best goose hunt we have had in the 2 years we have been hunting. We usually manage 4 to 8 geese in a hunt, but we were on fire yesterday, so much so that we decided to clean up the gear almost 90 minutes before last legal light with only 3 more birds needed for the 4 man 40 bird total limit. We capped it off at 37 geese and 2 bands, one of which was my first band, pretty awesome!

Good job. What's the band details if ya don't mind sharing? I help band every year so it's neat seeing any I may have helpped band.

Well done! No snow is nice, No luck for myself and my buddy only saw a few singles off in the distance. Fields were covered in ice wonder if that made a difference. Back at it Saturday let's see what it brings.

After Dec 16 there's not too much to hunt for unless you like coyote meat.

Ive taken a dozen bush rabbits this winter, which makes for a nice walk in the woods and good supper. Spring snow goose season starts March 15th. Can't wait, two more weeks.

My son had me out this morning. Couldn't get permission on the field he wanted to hunt but did get it for a field nearby. Geese were flying near us but none would commit to our decoy spread. Seemed they all had places to go and couldn't be bothered with us. He did manage to knock 1 goose down today. Great day out anyway. Cheers bac4

I know some woods around regina but didn't see any rabbit. Maybe I should look harder.
are they plentiful in any forested area? spot and stalk ?
as for white geese, I've tried last year and was a pain to do it with just 50 decoys and I got nothing at the end of the day

Question for the Ontario guys with the late season.

Is this a season thats only open if you weren't allowed to Sunday gunhunt in your municipality? Or is it open to everyone?

Not open to everyone or all WMU's..... The only areas late season goose is open is in areas that don't allow Sunday gun hunting....something about so many goose hunting days allowed per year, so if you area has Sunday hunting the total hunting days have been used up...

Update=== Got out again today. We were able to hunt the field that my son wanted to hunt yesterday. 3 hunters wound up with 22 birds, 3 of which were banded. If yours truly had been a better shot today no doubt we would have had a 3 man limit. Cheers Bac4

I went out on Monday with a friend and it was crazy windy. My buddy slept in a bit and we were still arriving / setting up with the sun starting to rise. We get into the field and lay our guns down to begin setting up our spread of decoys and not even 5 seconds after placing the FIRST decoy on the ground (we are still just walking around with our decoys 90% packed up still, not really paying attention) a flock starting landing directly on our heads. It was comical. We tried scurrying to load our guns in a hurry but they flew off.
I can only imagine what it must have looked like if somebody was watching. A real Three Stooges moment for sure.

After that, any flock we saw was either on a mission up high heading to the lake, or too far to our right, guess they found a more cozy spot to settle down than our field.
Around 1pm it got so windy we decided to head in.

I'll try again Saturday for closing day I suppose.
