I am looking for a model 70 Winchester 270 , Being a woman I do not envy recoil from a rifle and would like to find something that light and good for hunting Deer and is capable to mount a scope on it.

If anyone out there is selling one of these, let me know....

I just started hunting about a couple of years ago and will be going out with some friends this fall... This will be my first rifle and I am looking forward to getting involved in the sport. :dancingbanana:

Welcome aboard! :D
Have you fired a 270 before?
Are longer shots a common thing where you'll be hunting?
The reason I ask these questions, is that there are some fine firearms chambered in calibres that are great for dear, but will give much less recoil (30-30, 7mm-08,.257 Roberts, etc.)
Also remember, a lighter gun gererally absorbs less of the recoil. An autoloading weapon will also help here.
Just something for you to think on.
Good luck with your quest, and good luck with the hunt!! ;)

No, have never fired a 270, I'm going on advice from my hunting friend he menioned a 270, 243, 260 6mm bolt action, brands such as remmington 700, winchester 70 , ruger or browning model. So as you can see so many choices but which one is right ....

Really, what you want is a .458 lott....or at the very least a .375 H&H mag. Those deer don't stand a chance!!

Kidding...270 is a great round. If it's specifically for deer, you may want to consider a .243.

Welcome to the forum...

I agree with Ontgunners suggestion on some lighter kicking but just as effective calibers..257r, 250s, 25-06 or even a 243..personally I would look serious at the new 260. Depending on which rifle a 270 can give quite a stout reverse punch. Unless your a very robust female & quite an experienced shooter as compaired to a petit lady? my sugg would be to look at something a little smaller!
