Hello all,

It seems the Lie-brals want to take all my 22's from me so I am looking for a replacement.

Does anyone have any experience with the Howa 1100? It seems that Howa makes a good quality product but I was wondering if there was any real life feedback out there.

Thanx

Hello johnny1984 -

I did have one earlier this year. I took in every review that was available beforehand, most mentioned problems with feeding and accuracy. I decided to pick one up anyway, as I am a fan of the Howa/Vanguard rifles.

PROS - the finishing and build quality is fantastic - The bolt feels great, machining is good, the overall feel is 'quality'.
CONS - I ended up experiencing the same feeding and accuracy issues others did.

A range buddy suggested that the extractor spring clip may be too tight, not allowing the round to pop up into the bolt face properly. He was right. I adjusted this and re-tried. The feeding was much-improved, and I wasn't getting any shaving of the round as it entered the chamber at the right angle. This helped with accuracy too. Still had the odd issue, but not too bad.

Accuracy was hit or miss. I had some excellent groups, and some shocking groups.

Finally lost interest and sold it, making sure the purchaser knew about all the warts. He played with it for a while and also passed it on.

It was very disappointing. The rifle itself is very nice and solid to handle. I am truly shocked that Howa would put out a product that's not finished properly. I think once they sort through these issues, they'll end up being a great rifle, but my experience with mine tells me it's not there yet. You may have better luck.

If you're looking for a good price, try North Pro in Sask. They seem to have them on sale regularly, and often free shipping.

Best of luck, and Happy New Year.
