Howa 1500 223 ........ How good (bad?) is the trigger ?

I would bet it comes with the 2 stage howa trigger. They are serviceable. I’m not a fan of the 2 stage, but they do have good ability for accuracy. I had replaced my vanguard series 1 trigger with an aftermarket and the 2 stage on the series 2 broke just as clean and crisp.

The old style were easy to work on and respond well to a bit of light stoning. I’m
Where people got the idea that the Howas and old Vanguards were so hard or impossible to improve but they are quite simple. It’s just one of those things that got repeated endlessly until it was true I guess.

I'm having a look at Howa mini 223, what's the info on the trigger ?

If it is the same as the short action trigger it is really good and as others said it is relatively easy to work on if you are comfortable tapping out pins. I cut the spring in mine and it is sweet... but if you go too light cutting it, it doesn't tension enough to reset properly. Think the lightest I could go was around 1.5 pounds and have mine set a bit above that.

The Minis I have owned had the 2 stage HACT trigger like on the Vanguard S2s.

I'm a very big fan of that trigger pull.

Ya that’s the one, hact, it breaks clean and crisp and easy to get down, I think I just took a bit of spring off and can set it 2.0 or 3.0, kids shoot mine so I leave it at 3.0 for them. They shoot good. Just cheaply made and feeling. Squishy over travel, two stage, cheap stamped safety lever. For as cheap as the rest of the gun outside the action and barrel it’s a pretty good trigger. At 3.0 lbs it’s easy to shoot half minute 3 shot groups.

This.^^^^
Nothing wrong with the old trigger. I've tuned up a few. I recently acquired one in a trade. It was near 6 lbs as it left the factory. After adjustment it was 3-1/4 lbs without creep. And yes, the safety still engages. Most aren't that easy. Some require disassembly and stone work but they aren't as bad as people say. I'd rather have the old trigger than the 2 stage with it's cheap looking stamped safety knob.

I share your criticism....but agree with the rest too.

Dang but they are very "shootable" rifles. I find the Vanguards to be just a peach to shoot well offhand. And, like you said, for grouping.

Is says the vanguard s2s have a very nice trigger I was pleasantly surprised

I agree. I don't know if my S2 is stock or not, but it has a really nice trigger on it. I don't know the pull weight, but it is perfect, at least for me.
