just wondering if anyone is doing any semi custom stuff with the vanguards? i bought a girl hunt 7-08 for my wife and she's not very fond of the gun, i was thinking about putting it in a new stock, new trigger, bed it and have a handy little rifle. just wondering what other people have done that may be similar

I don't think its cost feasible to dump a bunch of money ...like $250.00 or more into a vanguard. You would be way farther ahead to sell it and move up to something like a mountain rifle in the configuration your better half wants. Its fun to play with stuff and mod it..but at some point you are wasting $$$$ Just my .02 worth.

I already have something new lined up for my wife, I know it's not going to be an ultra light rig, just looking for stock options to have a regular size stock on the gun so I can shoot it is all

Maybe calling it a girlie gun dint help?
Check Boyd's as they have a clearance or discounted section and
you may very well find a stawk fer yer gerlie ker-pow.

Howa/Vanguards are great, but nothing will ever make them "light".

The Howa Alpine 6.5 Creedmoor I had was exactly 7lbs. scoped and I doubt if I could have made it any lighter.
Howa shaved the receiver on both sides, lightened the bolt handle and used a Bansner stock.
Even with those changes my Howa was still nearly a pound heavier than my Rem. 700 Ti.

Howa and light = Nope

But mine is a damn tack driver.

Have several rem 700s and this gu is way better in every aspect but weight.

Add a stock and enjoy.

is there a light version of the Howa 1500s?

theres a Hogue stock model, sporter barel etc... around 2.6kg ? is that so

or they all heavvyyy

Why worry about the weight , carry it on a quad or take breaks if you get tired . Do guys carry dehydrated food or a good lunch ?
The weight isn't that much more is it ? I like taking breaks , I think I've seen more unexpected game at unplanned rest spots than planned steak outs .

They are heavy. I think most people buy a rifle without considering the combined weight when they add a scope and rings and I that is one of the reasons that Leupold scopes are so popular, is because they weigh less than a lot of comparable scopes.
